- Estimated shares green bean imports: arabica 70%, robusta 28%, not
specified 2%.
- Imports of roasted and soluble were 575,000 bags GBE
- 2009 re-exports of processed coffee were 123,000 bags GBE (113,000
bags of soluble ad 10,000 bags of roasted coffee)
- Per capita consumption in 2009: 3.36kg.
- Leading roasters (all forms of coffee) are Nestlé, Ajinomoto
General Foods (AGF), UCC, KEY, ART (Mitsubishi Coffee), Tokyo Allied,
Unicafe and Doutor, with the instant market entirely dominated by
Nestlé and AGF.
- Imported soluble coffee of all forms accounts for 6 to 7% of gross
imports, with Brazil as the major supplier (about 56% in 2009) followed by
Colombia, Indonesia and Ecuador. About a quarter of this is coffee
extract, with or without sugar.
